The investment casting process, also known as lost wax or precision casting, is an ancient, complex and distinctive casting process and is used for the production of metal parts with the possibility of using different alloys during the process.
The parts obtained by this process are characterized by their wealth of details, dimensional precision and fine finishing, which allows, in some cases, the almost complete elimination of subsequent machining operations.
Currently, microfusion has also become known as precision casting and has been used on a large scale by companies from different segments and with great advantages.
The main benefit of this process, when compared to conventional casting, in addition to reducing the machining volume and improving the visual finish of the product, is the guarantee of the technical safety of the metal part.
Precision casting consists of producing a given piece, starting from a wax model, obtained through an injection process, which is covered with ceramic material, composed of solid particles, refractory mud, with increasing granulation, forming a mold that after removing the wax from its interior, it becomes hollow and serves as a base for filling the liquid metal.
For every steel part, a wax part is required. This is done with the help of injection molds and semi-automatic injection machines. Injected, the parts go through a manual deburring procedure. Subsequently, the parts are manually welded in a tree arrangement in order to guarantee a technical form and an economical arrangement of the same.
Empty ceramic trees ("husks") are preheated in a calcination kiln.
The main task of preheating, however, is to give the ceramic shell strength and stability so as to withstand the casting pressure required later on.
The incandescent ceramic shells are removed from the calcination furnace through mechanical devices and relocated on a bed of sand where they will immediately be poured with pre-specified steel, iron or non-ferrous alloys.
With this method, the precision casting process guarantees particularly good dimensional accuracy and good surface.
After being bottled, the ceramic clusters, filled with metal and still heated, are cooled to room temperature and, as a result, part of the ceramic shell is released from the formed steel parts and the final remainder of this ceramic is removed using a hammer-type equipment and shot blasting stainless steel.
After its solidification, this metal, which is now a metallic part, is removed from the rest of the ceramic mold, going through the finishing process and finally inspected to verify if it complies with the customer's specifications. In addition to a BETTER and FASTER development, the Precision Casting process has been growing more and more in the world market. It is estimated that, in the coming years, there will be a growth of more than 60% of the companies that do not yet work with this metallic alloy, starting to join our projects.
